An examination of contemporary art and artists from India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines. Artworks will be considered both as expressions of their respective cultures and as formal statements. Issues of Orientalism, colonialism, nationalism in the art of the "East" and the effects of globalization on contemporary art will guide this study of post WWII art, with cultural differentiation as a major goal. (Offered spring semester.) 3 credits.
