Required of all freshman art majors, this course provides students with the vocabulary for discussing the formal elements of painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, graphic design, and mass media. The modern Western tradition is emphasized, but ways of understanding and evaluating art from other cultures and epochs are also explored. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits.
