This course provides a broad understanding of bilingualism from sociolinguistic, ideological, psychological, and educational perspectives. Students examine theoretical concepts and selected case studies that focus on Spanish bilingualisms around the world, the complex interrelations between social factors and linguistic practices, the role of language in the construction of identity, and the structural impacts of language contact. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits.
