Examines the question: How and why do societies and cultures change over time? Primary attention will be given to the social forces that bring about change in our social institutions, values and norms. The course will focus on how social movements and revolutions promote change and resist change; how technology affects social arrangements and culture; and how social processes such as secularization, modernization and globalization affect change.
