Emphasis is on understanding of mathematics taught in elementary school using a problem-solving approach and the recommendations of the NCTM Curriculum and Evaluation Standards. Topics from basic mathematics include sets, functions, numeration systems, whole numbers, integers, number theory, rational numbers, decimals and real numbers. Topics from geometry include points, lines, planes, angles, triangles, parallelograms, circles, basic straight-edge and compass constructions, and geometry as a deductive system, congruence and similarity, areas and volumes. Prerequisite: MATH 3A or recommendation of the department chairperson based on assessment Winter
