This workshop visits unconventional lives of extraordinary people who transcend conventional concepts of gender identity: from the French Saint Joan of Arc to American icons Calamity Jane and Rupaul, from the galli of Mesopotamia and the hijra of India, to the Faafafine of Samoa, and others who are intersex, twospirit, transvestic, etc. Through this safari of trans identity run patterns of hybrid beauty, leadership, and spiritual stewardship.
