This is a multi-genre literature course focusing on work by queer writers from Radclyff Hall to Tony Kushner. How does being "in the life" inform the worksof these authors Are there consistent themes, concerns, symbols, metaphors inherent in gay and lesbian work What impact does homophobia have, and how has the literature changed over the 20th century Is there a marked difference between literature pre-Stonewall, and post-Stonewall Students examine the role of humor in gay and lesbian writing, as well as issues such as AIDS, class, race, trans-gendered identity, bisexuality.
