This course is an introduction to the aesthetics of the photographic medium. Students view a wide range of photographic images from the genres of documentary, art photography, and portrait photography. Readings by artists, historians, theorists, and critics are assigned and discussed as they relate to the topics covered each week. Emphasis is placed on students developing an eye for photographic composition and an understanding of the aesthetic, ethical, and theoretical underpinnings of individual photographers' work.
