An exploration of works of literature from the Spanish conquest to the late nineteenth century, with attention paid to the impact of colonialism on the present Spanish-speaking world. Major figures studied include Christopher Columbus, Hernán Cortés, SorJuana Inés de la Cruz, Garcilaso de la Vega (El Inca), as well as the rise of Romanticism in Spanish America.
