As we read selected works from the early Greek poet Sappho to contemporary American poets, we will explore the various meanings love takes on in different cultures, centuries, and contexts-and we will consider the possibility that writing itself can be a way of loving. If you think that love poetry is sentimental or predicatable, this seminar will surprise you! 3 credits
