This course will explore the literature of the American Renaissance, a period of amazing artistic and intellectual growth. Students will read authors ranging from Emerson to Alcott, Melville to Dickinson, Hawthorne to Fuller. These authors were particularly interested in creating a literature that was distinctively American. Particular emphasis will be placed on the influence of transcendentalism on these authors and their works. ( Prerequisite: ENG 102/107/110)
