An introduction to critical analysis and aesthetic appreciation of film, through lectures, discussions, readings, and screenings of dramatic, documentary and experimental films. The course, interdisciplinary in nature, explores various aspects of film style, the similarities and differences between film and other mediums of expression (including painting, music, theatre, and lite rature), and the various functions of film - as art, entertainment, social statement, propaganda, education, and experiment.
