PHY 521 - Mathematical Methods for Physiologists

Institution:
Rush University
Subject:
Description:
Review of fundamentals of calculus in one dimension and generalization to several dimensions. Integration of basic functions, techniques of analytic and numerical integration, and Fourier series and transforms will be presented. Applications to Physiology are stressed and include quantitative analysis of ion-sensitive fluorescent dye experiments, mathematical descriptions of kinetic experiments, reaction rate theory, theory of diffusion, and image formation with microscopes. The equations of mechanics are taught toward explaining molecular dynamic modeling. (5 Credits)
