This course will explore the fundamental dynamics of working in a laboratory and the basic techniques one needs to start his/her research. Each class will have a lecture and a practicum ("hands-on" experience). The course is intended to familiarize students with the basic safety, procedures, equipment, instruments, reagents/buffers, glassware, software, technical skills and the manual skills necessary to perform scientific research. The course will also teach the students laboratory calculations, mathematical conversions, medical terminology (on-line WebCT individual study), quality control procedures, and basic experimental design.
