A survey of Hispanic American literature beginning with the pre-Colombian (Inca, Maya and Aztec), and continuing with the Chronicles of the Spanish Conquest, the Baroque and Neoclassical periods and the romantic period which led to independence. Realism and Gaucho literature will also be included. (Offered alternate years.) Prerequisite: Consent of instructor or Spanish 306. (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
