Consideration of whether current processes of socio-cultural and political-economic change signify a transition to a new postmodern epoch. The revolution in information technology, the increasing centrality of consumerism, globalization and the decline of the nation-state, the politics of identity, and the rediscovery of civil society. Prerequisite: Any 200-level Sociology course or consent of instructor. (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
