Poetry, essay, short story and the novel in contemporary Hispanic American literature (1945-2000). Gabriela Mistral, Jorge Luis Borges, Pablo Neruda, Jose Emilio Pacheco, Carlos Fuentes, Cesar Vallejo, Alejo Carpentier, Eduardo Mallea, Ernesto Sabato, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Elena Poniatowska, Antonio Skarmeta, Ariel Dorfsman and other post-modernist writers will be included from year to year. Prerequisite: Spanish 306. (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
