Introduction to probability distribution theory and statistical inference. Descriptive methods for building models with emphasis on linear regression models including variance and covariance. Analysis of model fit and discussion of modern robust techniques. (This course is an appropriate first course in statistics for students with stronger mathematical backgrounds.) Prerequisite: Mathematics 117 or 126. (Meets the Critical Perspectives: Scientific Investigation of the Natural World requirement.) 1 unit - Tinsley.
