Block 7: Topics in Education: Power of the Arts in Education. This community-based research course explores the rationales, history and theories of the arts in education and addresses how the arts can be used as pedagogy to motivate and engage students in a regular classroom elementary or secondary setting. Includes critical analysis of interdisciplinary curricula that integrates the arts. Action research methods will be utilized in a K-12 classroom to determine the impact of teaching core curriculum through the arts. Requires a substantial lab component, providing extensive hands-on experience in digital storytelling and teaching in public school classrooms. No prerequisites needed in art, technology, or education. Prerequisite: Cornerstone Arts Initiative. 1 unit - Stanec.
