This course examines contemporary Japanese society and compares it with the United States through an analysis of the construction of social problems in both societies. An understanding of what constitutes "social problems" in both societies will be used to illuminate some of the basic features of both cultures and the differences between them. Prerequisite: Any 100-Level Sociology course. (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
