A study of the devotional, contemplative, liturgical, and philosophical dimensions of the ritually and artistically rich traditions of Pure Land and Tantric Buddhism. Will investigate historical examples from various Buddhist countries, with particular emphasis on Tibet and Japan. (Offered alternate years.) Prerequisite: Religion 170 or consent of instructor. (Meets the Critical Perspectives: Diverse Cultures and Critiques requirement.) (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
