Comparison of the varying ways in which meaning is encoded in grammar in languages of the Americas, Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and Europe. Emphasis on analysis and identification of recurring cross-linguistic patterns in morphology, syntax, and semantics. Prerequisite: Anthropology 258 or consent of instructor. 1 unit - Watkins.
