Basic course in teaching reading designed to foster teacher candidates' understanding of the theoretical and pedagogical background of literacy. Enables candidates to develop competencies necessary to design and implement appropriate reading programs that meet the literacy needs of elementary and middle grade students of diverse backgrounds. Concurrent with EDUC 313, 313L, 315, 317, 321, 427L, SCI 322. Prerequisites: EDUC 125, 125L, 225, 225L, 427, MATH 125, and admission to WheTEP.
