Credit Hours: 2 Scientific knowledge in human genetics has expanded significantly in the last decade largely due to the Human Genome Project. This course will increase the ability of a professional nurse to think genetically when approaching a clinical situation or problem that may not appear to be genetic in nature. The course will examine basic mechanisms of inheritance and transmission of chromosomes and genes, understanding of genetic contributions to human diversity, and information about common inherited genetic disorders and conditions. (Open to all majors.) Prerequisite(s): Intro to Biology.
