3 credits In this course students create their own fresco walls on a small scale through model projects. They also study the great traditions of Renaissance, Mexican, and American public art from the 1930's to contemporary large-scale murals incity places. Examining the technical approaches such as fresco, mosaics, enamels, and a variety of new materials, students working individually or in collaboration explore the mural's potential through on-site commissions when possible. Students also investigate the cultural and political factors inherent in the creation of such works. Prerequisites: Contemporary Painting Practice and one 200-level painting elective Fulfills: 300-level Painting and Studio Elective; Studio Elective
