3 credits This course follows the development of ideas from the Renaissance to the present, e.g., the conflicts between science and traditional faiths, the rise of democracy, the influence of Freud, Darwin, and Marx, and questions of ethnicity and identity in a global village. This course scrutinizes cultural values and looks at the interplay between these values, intellectual assumptions, and works of literature and art.
