3 credits This studio-based course provides future art teachers an opportunity to work with the materials most often used with children, pre-K through 12 in classroom and community settings. Through in-class projects, a methods lab, written and studio assignments, students explore themes current in art education, including integrated learning, art and multi-cultural education and the development of critical and creative thinking as addressed in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks. As a part of this course students are required to do 15 hours of field experience observing art classes in a variety of settings. These 15 hours of field experience are applied toward the total 75 hours of pre-practicum experience required for Teacher Licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Prerequisites: Art Education I or Permission of Instructor Fulfills: Media, Forms and Ideas Requirement (Art Education Students) and Studio Elective
