3 credits This course explores the relationship between figuration and abstraction. Students work with the conceptual contributions of such twentieth-century modernists as Matisse, Picasso, DeKooning, Johns, and the New Image Painters. Subject matter is discovered through imagination and contact with real and photographed objects, figures, and space. Traditional and nontraditional painting materials are employed. Prerequisites: Painting, Color and Light Fulfills: 200-level Painting Elective; Studio Elective
