This course will focus on health care benefits from a consumer perspective. The course will examine benefits provided by employers, unions trade organizations, and government entities. The types of benefits studied include private insurance, managed care, disability coverage, long-term catastrophic health coverage, employer health plans, on-site health care, and government programs. The course will examine related health issues inherent in the employer-employee relationships, including COBRA benefits, ERISA protections, worker's compensation benefits, disability discrimination, and drug testing.
