Will examine the nature and evolution of the novel in French literature after the Revolution through the study of authors from the 19th-century through the present, such as Hugo, Balzac, Flaubert, Zola, Proust, Sartre, Camus, Duras, Robbe-Grillet, Sarraute and Simon. Prerequisite: French 306, or 307, or 308 or consent of instructor. (Not offered 2008-09.) 1 unit.
