T 7:15-9:45 Watts This course will examine the development of the dream vision as a distinct genre of literature in the Middle Ages. We will begin with Cicero's Latin work, "The Dream of Scipio," and then follow the development of the form in the Old English "Dream of the Rood," and the works of such writers as Macrobius, Dante, Jean de Meun, Chaucer and the Pearl-poet.
