R 5:30-8:00 Pryor U, 3 25 Literature and the Law This course explores the relationship between law and literature. Readings will include selected texts, both fiction and creative non-fiction, where individuals encounter the legal system. Students will also evaluate several scholarly articles written by literary critics and legal scholars about the nexus between law and literature. In addition, students will view films where characters are confronted with the law. This course will foster discussions concerning narrative, power, access to legal representation, and the human factors--race, class, and gender--that play a role in justice and rendering legal decisions.
