4.00 credits MIS4600 Server-Side Database Implementation 4 credit Advanced Liberal Arts MIS4600 builds on the database design and implementation skills taught in MIS3660 Prototyping with IT. This course focuses on databases that are hosted on a server and support multiple users. The course covers more advanced design considerations such as theoretical constructs such as the Boyce-Codd normal for optimal design, locking theory, indexing algorithms, and Relational Calculus as a design tool. The course introduces the students to a server-based database management software, Standard Query Language (SQL). Students hone their skills using SQL Server to implement their designed structures, both as standalone implementations and distributed implementations. Additional contemporary topics such as data mining and data warehousing practices are also explored. This course is typically offered in the spring semester.
