The course will focus on literature in translation from Europe, Japan, India, and Mexico from the 7th through the 17th centuries. Thematically, the course will address conquest, spirituality, and love with the aim of cultivating the student's ability to consider critically class, gender, religion, and the idea of the "other" in medieval Europe and beyond.
