Description:
A survey course of literature from the Spanish speaking Caribbean which includes writers from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Venezuela. We will initiate the course by situating Spanish American Modernism and its relation to cultural production at the beginning of the twentieth century and then proceed to analyze a selection of poetry from the region. A selection of novels from each country will follow. Prerequisite: SPN 3103, Introduction to Literature and SPN 3113, Advanced Grammar and Composition, or instructor's permission.
