Fall (4 credits). The role of the dramaturg investigated from its roots in Eighteenth-Century Germany to its late Twentieth-Century arrival in the American professional theatre. Topics include the function of the dramaturg in classical play production, adaptation, community- specific performance, and new play development. May be repeated for degree credit, for a maximum of 8 credits, with department chair approval. Offered as needed.
