Fall (4 credits) or Spring (4 credits). Study of the social process of identifying and defining deviance, including the consequences of the deviant label, responses to deviance, how power is distributed and exercised in these processes, how social perceptions of deviance change over time, and the ways deviance works within society. Exploration of the social isolation, as well as the creativity of, being deviant. Prerequisite: SOAN 330 or permission. Offered as needed.
