Spring (4 credits). Study in two related areas: number theory and history of mathematics. Number theory topics include primes, Diophantine equations, congruences, number theoretic functions, modern applications, and unsolved problems of number theory. Readings include both primary and secondary historical sources. Prerequisite: MATH 201 or 204. MATH 241 strongly recommended. Offered in alternate years.
