Fall (4 credits), Spring (4 credits). An introduction to literary traditions and counter-traditions, exploring notions of authorship, authority, and canonicity. Students will practice a variety of approaches to analysis and interpretation, incorporating literary theory as a guide to interpretation and as a stimulus to inquiry. They will also be introduced to academic conventions of literary study. Prerequisite: recommended ENGL 201. NU only.
