The art of legal writing is a skill critical to lawyers and those working in the criminal justice field. This course bridges the gap between essay style writing taught toundergraduates and the more technical writing of lawyers and other criminal justice professionals. The course also introduces students to the fundamentals of legal research and writing to develop the skills necessary to prepare a legal memorandum and other technical tasks in the criminal justice professions. After successful completion of this course, the student should be prepared to perform law clerk or paralegal duties such as legal research and writing; quantum studies to determine the value of a civil cause of action; and general legal assistance duties. Prerequisite: COMP C119 or equivalent.
