A comprehensive study of the techniques, materials and methods utilized in the teaching of instrumental music at the elementary through secondary levels in the public school. Emphasis will be placed on readings, discussions and activities which promote in the student further understandings of: a philosophy of instrumental music education; knowledge of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments; a philosophy for contest/festival participation; selection of literature; and issues pertaining to the role and administration of the instrumental program in the public school. Classroom observation and laboratory experience in the public school is required. Prerequisites: MUS 314. Odd Falls
