(1 hour) This lab utilizes more advanced synthetic methods than those covered in Chemistry 202. Classical methods of organic qualitative analysis, including refractive indices and densities, are used to determine the identity of unknown compounds and mixtures. Skill in obtaining and interpreting ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and mass (MS) spectra is emphasized. One 3-hour lab per week. Prerequisite: CHE 202.
