The course work will include mastery of jazz styles and repertoire in a jazz band ensemble. Students will develop musicianship skills, including instrumental methods, jazz and improvisation. Participants will perform arrangements in a variety of jazz styles, with arrangements by historical and contemporary jazz composers. Biweekly rehearsals will culminate in performances. Ensemble rehearses a minimum of two times per week in addition to scheduled class time, and is coached by a faculty member. The faculty member establishes the number of performances when the group is formed. Can be repeated for up to three credits which will fulfill one Arts and Humanities core requirement. (Cr: 1)
