An interdisciplinary examination of the American past up to and including the Civil War. Course covers American Indian history and culture prior to and after the arrival of European settlers; the founding of the republic; and the ideals, contradictions, and emerging identity of a growing nation. Students will study key events, institutions, reform campaigns, and literary movements, and the broader cultural and ideological contexts in which they arose. Satisfies the Arts and Humanities and Writing Designated core requirements. Prerequisites & Notes Crosslisted with ENG 226. (Cr: 3)
