Surveys the history and culture of Latin America from its struggle for independence to the recent past. Examines the geography and economy of Latin America and the role of religion and race in the region. Political traditions in Latin America, e.g. dictatorships and movements for democracy, and the region's role in international affairs and its relationship to the United States, will also be covered.
