Prerequisites: SOC 360 and permission of instructor Offered: Typically as student interest and faculty availability allow An in-service training experience working as an applied sociologist with a program. Students will learn how to use critical thinking to analyze problems, develop research plans designed to provide solutions to these problems, carry out research in the field, critically analyze the data collected into findings, and write organized reports that set forth the policy implications of the findings. Under the academic direction of a staff member in the Department of Sociology, the student will work in a setting that focuses on the creation and evaluation of social policy, e.g. business, service agency, community group, or governmental or judicial sector. In addition to spending the equivalent of a full day each week in the field placement, students will meet together for a weekly seminar. 1 Course Credit
