Offered: Typically every Spring Term An introduction to the study of music literature. Students in this course will be introduced to significant musical pieces from the major historical periods and will learn to distinguish the musical stylistic characteristics of those periods. Emphasis will be on the development of listening skills and appropriate methods and abilities to analyze, interpret, discuss, and write about music. Although the focus of the literature will be music from the Western art music tradition, selected examples of music from other world cultures will be included. May include required attendance of live musical performances on campus or in the region, as available and appropriate. Four periods per week. Arts Perspective. 1 Course Credit
