Description: The course presents a history of the American economy from the nation's early beginning to the twentieth century. Emphasis is placed upon the development of the country's emerging economy, industrial transformation and the appeal for governmental intervention. Particular attention is also given to the role of capitalism, the modern corporation and government-business regulations in the twentieth century.
