Description: This course presents a survey of American writing from the Colonial period to the Civil War with focus on the intellectual movements and literary output of Puritanism, Native American literature, Romanticism, the Transcendentalists and slavery narratives. Specific topics and texts may vary according to instructor and student preference and may include such writers as Bradford, Bradstreet, Edwards, Hawthorne, Emerson, Melville, Thoreau and Douglas. Prerequisites: EH200 Credit Hours: 3 CR.HR.
