The course considers the relationship between law and science, especially the use of scientific evidence in civil and criminal litigation. Legal admissibility and scientific validity are discussed in light of the U.S. Supreme Court case of Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and the influence of that case and its aftermath in the development and use of the forensic sciences. Prerequisite(s): Sociology 204 and 205.
